Whaley was looking around for obstacle ideas the other day and forwarded me a clip from Savannah Slamma. I probably watched this contest video like 100 times when I was younger. Its got all the great skaters from the era, even the vert dudes street skating… The obstacles were way ahead of their time and the tricks and antics made any skater stoked to go rip. The music was rad too…
I think about this contest a lot actually. One of Indy’s founders, Fausto Vitello along with Jim Muir organized this event and many others, which took street skateboarding to a whole different level and forged the future of skateboarding as we know it. A lot of the events today remind me of Savannah Slamma. Tampa, the recent Maloof cup in NY…
