OVERLOAD Krux Kickflip CHALLENGE wrap up

*Words by Overloads's own Kevin Marks"

It all went down on a sunny Saturday afternoon in Chula Vista, CALIFORNIA. A feisty crowd was on hand to witness the kickflip prowess of 39 competitors. 72 was the high score of the day by Daniel Rincon.

From there we took the top 10 high volume kickflippers into a BONUS ROUND where they had to do as many kickflips over the SAWHORSE as possible. When the dust settled, young Diego Najera was on top with only 2 flips over the obstacle.
This year's event went off without any problems and every competitor walked away with at the very least a hat or a tee.

Daniel left with an Osiris backpack full of Krux products, Pig Wheels, BONES Bearings, TWS subscription, a certificate for a pair of LAKAI kicks and a ZERO deck.
And Diego walked with a similar backpack.
*Prizes standard for KFC Winner are Krux Trucks, Tees, Transworld Skate Mag Subscription, Lakai Shoe Gift Shirt and "Feelin It" DVD. Any additional prizes like Daniel won are soley up the the KFC organizer"

Fun was had by all. Many savy attendees went home with new sneakers.
Less than a month to GO SKATEBOARDING DAY.. June 21st, we'll be back for an all day event at Chula Vista Skatepark.

WEST COATS RECLAIMS THE KFC WORLD RECORD TITLE!

WEST COAST RECLAIMS THE KFC WORLD RECORD TITLE!
Location : Oneway Boardshop in Ventura, CA !
When : Saturday, May 12th, 2007
Record to beat : 283 Consecutive Kickflips

Central Cal Krux Rep Jono Hicks filled us in on the action and how history was made.. this is the email he sent us this morning:
To the crew:
Ok, I have to admit I thought the 283 kickflip record that was set last year was unbeatable. I had my doubts due to the fact I don't think I could even ollie 283 times in a row w/o my legs buckling.......but I'm old now and losing the focus of this email. A new record has been set! I just completed my first KFC for the year with Oneway Boardshop in Ventura, CA. There were more people there than I've ever had a KFC event. Mostly due to the fact that we tied the KFC into an annual carnival event that Oneway Boardshop does at each of there locations each year. But......who cares why they were there, they were there! We had 80 people sign up for the KFC and when the dust settled we had crowned a new record holder. 17 year old Carlos Ramos walked away after 284 consecutive kick flips! Seriously....he didn't fall on 285, he didn't even try. He hit 284 and said that should hold up for a little while. My next KFC is in 3 weeks in Santa Maria (Carlos's home town) so he will have a chance to defend his title if needed. Below is a list of the top 5 KFC'ers from this event:
1- Carlos Ramos with 284
2- Tony Garcia with 82
3- Brian Hernandez with 48
4- Ricky Cisneros with 46
5- Angel Salazar with 44
VIVA LA COSTA OESTE!
Here's his proof.. the signup list with detailed records! Very professional!

And here's the young man that all this hype is about... the one, the only... CARLOS RAMOS!!!!!

2007 KRUX KICKFLIP CHALLENGE SEASON HAS BEGUN!

Our South East Sales Rep is a true KFC Vet now and took some time to let us know how it all went down! Howard Tarpey was the KFC photographer for this event.
Season Opener was to take place on May 4th@ DOMINION SKATEBOARDS in Richmond, VA but was rained out.

We had some pretty sweet tai food, a sneak peak of the new Krux Video "Feelin' It" and the good times flowed inside Dominion Skate Shop

Tommy, Silas, and Sid?

Well, it was a big ish' for Krux in the latest Skateboard Mag.
Lets start with the cover: Tommy Sandoval. Switch flipping some drama on a pair of Argyle's. The check is in the mail, Tommy.

Oh yeah, that ain't the cover. That's a backside noseblunt. I needed an image and didn't feel like scanning the Skate Mag.
Tommy's a nominee, scratch that, Tommy's THE nominee for Transworld's rookie of the year. Duh.
Next up, Silas Baxter Neal. He's got a tasty new jack as well as a sequence of a cab back lip on a handrail in the new Thrasher. Truly savage. If you don't know about Silas then you should probably ask somebody.
And finally, right after Silas is an interview with Sid Melvin. I recommend reading it. You may never try and hardflip again.
So that's the deal. Louie Barletta is #2 on TW's exposuremeter and the whole team seems to be blowing up proper.
I love you guys.

--------
wait, what's this? i still have a little space down here...and whats that? a soapbox. well, awesome! let me just step up here...ok, here we go...

Before you send our councilman a death threat...

Now's when skaters have to chill out and come off reasonable and intelligent instead of half cocked and aggressive.

If they voted not to have the park in a certain place we just have to keep trying. It took forever for the SC park to happen and many people at those meetings said "I don't like skateboarders." I winced everytime I heard it but they had a right to voice there opinons as citizens in our community.

A person in city council should not say who they like or don't like. Maybe he puts his personal opinion about skaters to the side when performing his civic duties but he's not going to get the benefit of the doubt now.
I know when I read his statement that I was instantly enraged and wanted to lash out. My first thought was 'Fuck that guy!' and I started forwarding the link.

The crazier we get about his comment the more it reinforces the underlying reasons why people see negativity in our sport and in the attitudes of skaters.

I'm not saying let his comments go. By all means he should be accountable for the words he says. But so should we.

Go easy on the threats, cussing and hate.

Unfortunately, much of the community is expecting us to react inappropriately. Its a stereotype that maybe we, as skaters, should be a little more conscious of in our own circles. I'm sure a lot of the people who "don't like skateboarders" have a reason based on experience and not just how we look on the street when they drive by.
Lets not give them anymore right now.

Its really been encouraging to see how quickly so many of us can ban together in support of what we whole heartedly love.

Lets do it right and use his words to promote the positivity of skating in our community...and get that park built.

So send that fool an email (kirby@wharftowharf.com) and get the word out wherever you can but don't make the rest of us look like dumb barbarians in the process.

But this is Krux and we do things a little different over here.
So ladies, this one's for you:

Oh snap! Gyllenhaal rides indys!
Sorry dudes.
I do have something to make up for it though.
